For the past 16 years, Ms. Welker has specialized in physician coding, compliance
and reimbursement for a large multi-specialty clinic in the San Diego area.
As a Certified Professional Coder through the American Academy of Professional
Coders, her primary focus has been educating physicians on the importance
of proper documentation for compliance with government regulations and optimal
reimbursement. Kristy’s active participation in national coding conferences
has kept her abreast of regulatory changes, coding and compliance issues.
As Manager of Medical Coding and Education, Ms. Welker is a liaison with physician
groups for coding inquiries and procedures. She is responsible for educating
physicians and staff on billing compliance with government regulations, coding
trends and updates. Kristy performs chart audits to monitor for accuracy and
compliance, and she also participates as an active member of the compliance
committee.
Ms. Welker attends seminars sponsored through the Society for Hospital Medicine
and is a regular article contributor to "Today's Hospitalist" magazine.
